Kim Carter Martinez was raised in a Conservative Jewish home in New Jersey and lived in Israel for a year as a teen. As a black Jew, she has faced the questions and comments of insensitive white Jews. For several years Kim has been speaking about racial diversity in the Jewish community and offering support and wisdom to other Jews of color.
